Urgent Eye Care in Dallas, GA: What is an Eye Emergency?

KKH3468 June Eye Emergency BLOG Hp 1

Swollen lids, red eyes, or that dreaded goop that won’t go away — when your eye is acting up, it can be hard to tell if you need a cold compress or a professional right away. At Keesha K Hampton O.D. P.C., we help you make the right call fast.

If you’re experiencing eye pain, sudden changes in vision, or unusual discharge, don’t wait. At Keesha K Hampton O.D. P.C. in Dallas, we provide same-day medical visits for patients dealing with everything from eye infections to foreign objects in the eye. Dr. Hampton and her team are ready to treat most eye emergencies right in the office – without the need to visit urgent care or the ER.

What Counts as an Eye Emergency?

Eye emergencies don’t always come with flashing red lights. Sometimes it’s just discomfort that won’t go away or vision that feels a little off.

These symptoms often point to something that needs attention:

  • Eye redness or swelling
  • Sharp pain or burning sensation
  • Eyelids that won’t open due to swelling
  • Persistent discharge or “eye goo”
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Sudden changes in vision
  • Foreign object in the eye
  • Scratches or trauma to the eye

If you're experiencing any of the above, we want to see you – and we don’t turn away emergency cases unless it’s something that truly requires immediate surgical intervention. If that’s the case, Dr. Hampton will refer you to a trusted ophthalmologist or hospital right away.

What to Expect During a Medical Eye Visit

If you’re a private pay patient, the visit is $125, which includes the exam and a follow-up visit within 3–5 days. Insurance patients can have benefits verified ahead of time – Amanda will pull your information when scheduling the appointment and give you a breakdown of expected costs.

When you arrive, we’ll ask about your symptoms: how long they’ve been happening, what you’ve tried, and how things have progressed. After this intake, Dr. Hampton will perform a thorough medical eye exam and prescribe whatever treatment is needed to get you back on track.

H2: Same-Day Appointments – When You Need Us Most

We know emergencies don’t wait for convenience. That’s why our team at Keesha K Hampton O.D. P.C. makes every effort to get you in the same day – especially if you call before noon. Amanda, our front desk rockstar, handles these calls directly and can usually squeeze you in for an afternoon slot when needed. Walk-ins aren’t guaranteed, but we’ll always do our best to accommodate anyone dealing with urgent eye concerns.

While online appointment booking is available, we recommend calling the office directly if you believe your issue can’t wait. It allows us to ask the right questions upfront and prioritize your care.

We’re available Monday through Thursday, and our last appointment is at 4:30 p.m. You won’t have to battle school drop-offs or morning rush hour traffic – our schedule is designed to fit comfortably into your day. We even offer back-to-back slots for siblings if multiple kids need to be seen, which is ideal for busy parents.

Your Follow-Up Is Covered

For medical eye visits, follow-up care is included. After your initial appointment, Dr. Hampton will typically ask you to return in 3–5 days to ensure that the prescribed treatment is working and that your symptoms are improving. There’s no additional charge for this check-up – it’s part of how we make sure your eyes get the care they need without any surprises.

We also handle all claims and medical billing in-house, so insurance patients can rest easy knowing that we’ll guide you through the process. Whether it’s verifying your plan or walking you through your out-of-pocket costs, we’ll make it easy to understand.
